App Review

I’ve decided to do a review on the app “Oven Break”.

“Oven Break” is a simple concept I suppose. You play as a gingerbread man with a candy cane on a quest to escape from the oven, hence the title “Oven Break”. When you get the app and open it there are two options, challenge mode and training mode, which I like because the training mode gives you a chance to get used to the way the game is played. There are only two buttons to press, one is jump and the other is slide. The gingerbread man runs automatically and there’s no stopping him, save for the obstacles. The obstacles are little gaps in the ground that you need to jump over, kind of like Mario, and various hanging things you need to slide under. Occasionally there are wider gaps between the running spaces. To pass those you must hook your candy cane on the objects dangling above the gap to swing over to the other end. To swing you hold Jump and Slide at the same time, sometimes in quick succession if the gap is especially wide and there are more dangling objects after the first one. These objects change with the level. There are 6 levels and they all look different. One is an oven and the hanging objects are turkeys on hooks. The dangling objects above the wide gaps are hooks as well, but without the turkey. The next level has different objects, glasses and chandeliers. Appropriate since the level is on a dining table. The gingerbread man begins to run faster throughout the levels, with a speed up on every new level, so the objects start coming faster! It can be difficult to avoid losing lives if you aren’t good at hitting buttons quickly. You only have two lives, but it isn’t that bad since you can gain back any lives you lose pretty fast. The way you earn points is by getting as many of the floating jelly beans as possible, like Pac Man. Within those jelly beans are letters, being ‘F’, ‘R’, ‘E’, ‘E’, ‘D’, ‘O’, and ‘M’ respectively.  As you collect the letters you spell out the word “FREEDOM” at the top of the screen. Once the word is spelled out completely you gain back a life you may have lost. There is no limit to how many times you can spell “FREEDOM” or how many times you can gain a lost life, so really this game can be played indefinitely. If you can beat all 6 levels, you gain one infinity level. The Infinity level never ends unless you die. Hours can go into this game; believe me, since it’s very addictive.

Oven break is very fun as well though and pretty much harmless for children too. It’s not a shooter game so there’s no blood or guts; parents don’t need to worry about their children getting nightmares from it. The controls are easy enough to understand. The design is very cute as well; the determined face of the gingerbread man is humorous. The designs of the levels are simple but still well designed. The infinity level is a nice touch; now you never have to stop playing! It’s good for long car rides, as long as you turn the sound off because the little noises and background music are kind of annoying in my opinion. I enjoy this game, and I’m sure many others will too. But be warned! IT IS ADDICTIVE!  Last I checked it was free at the App Store. Unfortunately there are adds you have to deal with, but overall it’s not that bad. There are updates I believe that have been added, but I’m not sure about them since I haven’t updated the app yet.

The Cheesecake Challenge!

"How do I make cheesecake?"

I've always wanted to learn how to make cheesecake. My friend absolutely loves cheesecake and her birthday is coming up soon. I figured I could learn how to make one for her and bestow it upon her as a gift. I'm sure she'd be ecstatic. Please, if anybody knows how to make cheesecake (any kind!) I'd be grateful if you could show me how.

Learning to Love You More

After exploring the “learning to love you more” site and its various assignments I’ve decided that I really like assignment #27, take a picture of the sun. I particularly liked the picture taken by Federica Bertorelli of Fidenza, Italy. The sky is incredibly blue and it looks like the trees are just starting to get their leaves. The tiny little bits of blue are just really cute to me. I’m a fan of cute things so a cute little tree under a perfect blue sky with such a bright and shinning sun is something I can really get behind. It’s very calming to look at. I’ve seen others of sunsets over a cityscape but those are kind of dramatic to look at. They’re very nice yes, but it’s nice to see something simple and pretty once in a while too. The city is fast paced and large, it’s brimming with life but you can hardly breathe. This little tree in the sun shows life too, fresh life just beginning. This tree will give air, nice clean air. Air is important. I would love to make this picture into a poster, maybe one of those “hang in there” posters.
Another one of the sun pictures I liked was taken by Frances from Newcastle, England.  Again the sky is very blue and the sun is beautiful. In this one though there are fluffy white clouds and who I guess is Frances either blowing bubbles or dancing through the bubbles. I can’t make out the features of this person (it might not even be Frances) but whoever this mysterious person is they look like they’re having fun. Who wouldn’t have fun on a day like that? Look at that sky! That’s the bluest blue to ever blue. Good for you, mysterious person who may or may not be Frances, going outside and taking advantage of such a nice day. I like this picture because it just looks happy. The person is having fun outside with bubbles, how much more happy can you get? It makes me want to go outside and run around. It kind of takes me back to when I was only a little kid without a care in the world, playing outside like nobody’s business. I can remember the days when the sky was like this and I would get my big brother to come play baseball or football or something in the yard. One of us would always end up getting hurt somehow, but before that it was nothing but fun. I wish I could have those times back. Being a kid was so great, no stress and the world still seemed like a good place. To me this photo shows the innocence and boundless joy that comes with being a child.
Now that I look at them together I realize that both these pictures are similar. They both give me a happy feeling inside. I guess I just like things that make me happy, so sue me. The links for the website and the two photo’s is below if you wanted to check them out.

Logo Analysis

This is the logo for Tostitos tortilla chips. It has lots of orange, yellow, and black with that one little touch of red. They didn't just pick these colours for nothing either! They serve a purpose. Black is often associated with tradition or being classic. Orange is a symbol of affordability, fun, and celebration. Yellow symbolizes cheerfulness and amusement. Red is a visual cue for excitement, love and food. Basically this logo is saying that Tostitos chips are the fun tortilla chip. They're perfect for parties and other fun occasions. But you can also trust Tostitos because they are classic. The logo shows us that this chip will turn any event into a fun and exciting time. Also between the second and third 't' you can see two people enjoying a tortilla chip.

This is the Hershey's Kisses logo. As you can see it is mostly brown with some silver and white.  Brown invokes thoughts of nature, simplicity and richness. It is a very warm and romantic colour. Often it is associated with chocolate, which is exactly the product being sold. Silver/white is a symbol of purity, refinement, and innocence. What this logo tells us is that Hershey's Kisses are rich, romantic chocolates that are great for kids and refined adults alike.  Also there is a Hershey Kiss between the 'k' and the 'i'.
